Botulinum Toxins in Beverly Hills

We can’t stop aging, but we can slow its effects on our skin. Cosmetic injections of Botox® in Beverly Hills can reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles on the face and neck. Derived from bacteria, botulinum toxin type A is a purified neuromodulator that relaxes the muscles causing wrinkles by blocking the nerves from signaling the muscles to contract. Without the nerve signal, the muscles cannot contract, and unwanted facial wrinkles diminish.

What Is Botox & Other Botulinum Toxins?

Over time, our facial expressions etch lines into our faces – crow’s feet, forehead wrinkles, frown lines, lip lines, and many more. These dynamic wrinkles can give our complexion a more aged or stressed appearance even when we are relaxed and at ease. Commonly known by its trade names – Botox, Dysport®, Xeomin®, Jeuveau®, and Daxxify® – botulinum toxin is an FDA-approved medical treatment to relax the muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles. Its many uses include lifting and shaping the brow, enhancing facial symmetry, smoothing the skin, correcting a gummy smile, and decreasing excessive underarm sweating.

Can Botox Help With Face Slimming?

What Happens During A botox Treatment in Los Angeles?

Our Botox injections in Beverly Hills take less than 20 minutes, making them a convenient treatment that fits easily into the day. During your consultation with Dr. Sykes, you will discuss your aesthetic concerns, and he will devise a treatment plan to soften the lines in your face.

He will artistically inject the targeted muscles. The botulinum toxin absorbs into the nerve terminals over four to six hours, gradually relaxing the muscles and reducing their ability to contract and form wrinkles. The maximum results can usually be seen a week or two after the treatment.

Types of Botulinum Toxins

BOTOX

Probably the most well-known injectable treatment made of botulinum toxin type A, Botox minimizes the appearance of fine lines and dynamic wrinkles in the skin, safely and efficiently restoring a youthful glow to your complexion. Botox injections treat crow’s feet, frown lines, smile lines, and other wrinkles, with results lasting from three to five months.

DYSPORT

Dysport smooths frown lines with five-point injections above and between the eyebrows to temporarily prevent your muscles from contracting. Without etched frown lines in the brow area, you can restore a more rested, joyful glow to the face. Most users experience an improvement two to three days after treatment that lasts up to five months.

XEOMIN

Made from a pure, double-filtered formula of botulinum toxin, Xeomin has removed unnecessary proteins, so the main active ingredient contains just what’s necessary to soften lines. Even if other neuromodulators have become ineffective, Xeomin has no additives, so there is less risk of building a tolerance or desensitization to the product. Results can last as long as six months.

JEUVEAU

FDA-approved to treat glabellar lines between the brow, Jeuveau is a newer member of the botulinum toxin family. An exceptional prejuvenation treatment, Jeuveau can prevent furrows in the brow area long before they begin, helping you stay ten steps ahead of aging. Patients start to see the results within a week, typically lasting between three to four months.

DAXXIFY

Made from botulinum toxin type A and stabilized by a novel peptide, Daxxify contains a unique formulation that allows for longer-lasting results. Approved by the FDA as a brow-smoothing treatment, Daxxify softens dynamic wrinkles between the eyebrows, known as glabellar lines, for an average of six months, with the potential to last up to nine months for some individuals.

FAQ

Beverly Hills Botox

Recovery is very minimal following a Botox® or Dysport® treatment. Patients can go back to work immediately. Dr. Sykes has no problem with patients exercising immediately after treatment.

Botox® is not FDA-approved for cosmetic enhancements for people under 18 or people who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

It is important to avoid medications that may cause bruising like aspirin, Motrin, or Advil, and avoid certain oral supplements and vitamins that cause bruising, such as fish oil, before an injectable treatment. After Botox®, immediately applying pressure and ice can help prevent bruising.

The differences between Botox® and Dysport® are fairly minimal. They have different chemical makeups, but both formulas work to denervate the nerve muscle junction, which decreases muscle contraction and minimizes wrinkling. Although companies will compare the differences in these products and many patients have a preference, the efficacy of both products is very high and treatments are generally successful.

The difference between Botox® and Xeomin® is their formulation. While Botox® contains a complex mixture of proteins, Xeomin® is a purified form of botulinum toxin with no additives. The proteins in Botox may cause allergies that reduce its effectiveness; Xeomin’s formula minimizes the chance of reactions.

Botox® is FDA-approved to treat many areas. Common areas are the glabella lines (between the eyebrows), the crow’s feet at the lateral corners of the eyes, and the forehead.

Physicians also commonly use Botox® to treat the platysma muscle that creates wrinkles in the neck and pulls down the lower facial soft tissues; the masseter muscle, which helps with jaw clenching; and other small muscles that create dimpling of the chin and depression of the corner of the mouth (resting bitch face).

The average time between Botox® treatments is 3 to 4 months. However, some patients will wait for 5 to 6 months.

The amount of movement after a Botox treatment depends on the dose used in that particular area. If the dose of Botox® is higher, there is greater denervation of the muscles, which diminishes movement and creates a longer-lasting effect. If the dose is smaller, there is more movement and a shorter duration of its effects.
