What Is the Most Natural Facelift?

The idea of a natural facelift is really an oxymoron, isn’t it? A facelift isn’t natural at all. The real question on most people’s minds is which face lift appears the most natural.

The facelift is a procedure where we lift up the skin, the soft tissue and the fat, to create an upside down triangle shape where the face is top heavy. By that we mean the face is thinner at the bottom with a more angular and defined jaw and neckline. A good facelift accomplishes this with little to no telltale sign that you’ve had surgery.

People always say, “Sykes, you do really natural looking surgery.” That’s because my goal is to perform a procedure that doesn’t make my patient’s appear as if they’ve had something done. I often tell my patients, “I’d love it if you tell your friends, but I don’t want your face to tell them. I don’t want your face to be a giveaway that you’ve had surgery.”

Here are some of the top telltale signs that someone has had a facelift:

  1. The facelift has raised the hairline too high.
  2. The earlobe is re-attached to the face in an odd way or with a thick scar.
  3. The mouth is pulled posteriorly instead of the zygomatic muscle being lifted vertically.
  4. The neckline is lifted vertically instead of horizontally.

There are other small ways that can give away that something has been done, such as what the surgeon has done to the eyelids or brows. Little things can be a big giveaway and that’s why it’s important to choose an experienced facelift surgeon. I do several facelifts a week. It’s one of the surgeries that I love doing the most.

If you have questions about your neckline, your jaw line, or your midface, I’d be glad to answer them. Call me, email me. I help patients like you every day. And I’d love to see you.
