Nothing really happens when you stop getting Botulinum Toxin except that it wears off and winkles return. Botulinum toxin is often referred to as Botulinum Toxin, where the toxin weakens the nerve-muscle junction and diminishes the contraction of the muscle. Muscles in our face create wrinkles in the skin, such as horizontal wrinkles in the forehead from lifting the eyebrows.
When you stop getting Botulinum Toxin, the muscles slowly regain the ability to contract again.
Does it make you look older after the botulinum toxin wears off?
When the botulinum toxin wears off you look older than you did when the Botulinum Toxin was in effect, but not older than you did before you got the Botulinum Toxin. The wearing off of the toxin doesn’t age you.
Botulinum Toxin doesn’t necessarily make us look younger. It makes us look less wrinkled in an area where we were regularly contracting the muscle.
Are there alternatives to botulinum toxin?
There are several alternatives to botulinum toxin, such as cold therapy on the nerve or cutting the nerves or muscles in certain areas.
Are there alternatives to Botulinum Toxin?
Botulinum Toxin is a name brand of botulinum toxin. There are others such as Dysport and Xeomin, to name a couple.
For what botulinum toxin does, there is no better cosmetic therapy. When we want to weaken the nerve-muscle junction, to weaken that muscle so that we don’t squeeze our eyes together, there is nothing better. In fact, in the areas where Botulinum Toxin works, it works better than surgery. It can’t lift tissue, it can’t change the contour, and it can’t get rid of fat, It can’t do a lot of things that surgery can, but for what it does, botulinum toxin is the best at doing what it does.
Who should not get Botulinum Toxin or botulinum toxin?
There are several groups who should not get it. For a person with eyelid drooping, which is called eyelid ptosis, we wouldn’t want to use Botulinum Toxin in the forehead because we want to preserve the forehead muscle elevation. That means we don’t want to knock out these wrinkles because we would knock out or denervate the ability to raise our eyebrows. Those people with ptosis of their eyelids need their brow function.
People with multiple sclerosis and other things like myasthenia gravis are other groups of people that would not be suited for botulinum toxin.
